Ethical Photography

We adhere to ethical photography practices and only work with local community leaders and NGOs to know the culture and context of each community. We are very sensitive to the impacts of photographic tourism and the “zoo-ification” of people in impoverished areas.

Individuals rarely see or have control over their own image when foreigner photographers come to their communities to take photos. Images are used without consent or if sold, those people never see the profits. We flip the script by giving instead of taking photos.

What is it look like to be an ethical street photographer volunteer with Print the Love?

  • Connect with a stranger with kindness.

  • Offer to give an instant photo.

  • Take a photo if given permission the way they would like it positioned.

  • Print and give the photo without keeping any copies.

  • Put it in a frame protector so it will last for many years.

  • Ask for nothing in return!

Sometimes there is a conversation or an invite in to tea or just a smile full of gratitude. It is that simple to let someone know they matter.
